We understand that an international trip to Canada during a pandemic could be challenging, as you have to comply with the travel requirements of your home country and fulfill the needs of the Government of Canada for travellers and tourists. Keep an eye on Canada’s travel restrictions regularly to comply with mandatory measures like testing and quarantine, which are ever-changing with the prevailing situation.
Are you planning to visit Canada using a visitor visa called the temporary resident visa, or a parent or grandparent looking for a Super Visa? You must keep your paperwork in order. Don’t keep probing on this till the last moment. The pandemic has brought many changes in travel policies, so it is advised to check the requirements for visitor insurance for work, study, or visit Canada based on your situation. Read more about the visitor insurance here.
Even beyond the pandemic, visitors like you must understand that the medical insurance of your home country may not cover the emergency medical expenses. Moreover, the Government of Canada recommends that you take suitable Travel Insurance coverage throughout your stay in Canada. Canadian medical care could be expensive if you aren’t a resident of the country.
Canadian L.I.C. Inc’s visitor insurance for medical emergencies is a comprehensive choice that covers hospital care, emergency medical treatment for any illness or injury, doctor visits, ambulance, scan,/x-ray, diagnostic lab services, and prescription medicines, and more. It also includes 24/7 emergency medical assistance.

While most websites offer a generic overview of coverage limits or compare rates, they miss a critical point: when a claim needs to be made, what really happens? At Canadian L.I.C., we’ve seen hundreds of client cases unfold—not on paper, but in real-life emergencies. We’re not just offering plans. We’re managing outcomes. And here’s what that has taught us.
One of the most common assumptions among visitors to Canada is that any Travel Insurance plan that “meets the minimum requirements” is good enough. In reality, many of those plans—especially low-cost options from international providers—offer slim support when you need help most.
Take this story, for example: A couple in their 60s visiting from India bought the cheapest policy available online for their Super Visa. When the husband experienced chest pain and had to be rushed to the emergency room, they learned the policy didn’t cover ambulance transport or cardiac diagnostics because of “pre-existing condition exclusions.” Their claim was rejected, leaving them with over $14,000 in bills.
Had they worked with an advisor instead of a search engine, this could’ve been prevented.
Many plans include waiting periods, especially for pre-existing conditions or if insurance is purchased after arrival. If you fall ill within that window, you could be denied coverage, even if you paid your premium in full.
Reimbursement is a claims-based process. You must submit documentation, sometimes get translations, and wait for verification, often for weeks. Some international insurers don’t even have a local Canadian office, complicating the process further.
There are over 50+ visitor plans offered by different providers in Canada alone. Each one varies in terms of:
That’s why it’s not enough to buy Travel Insurance online. You need an expert who knows which plan suits your medical history, travel purpose, and visa type.
We analyzed 372 visitor claim support cases handled by our advisors at Canadian L.I.C. between January 2023 and March 2024. Here’s what we uncovered:
| Reason for Rejection | % of Cases | Main Cause |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-existing condition exclusions | 43% | Unstable condition not disclosed or misunderstood |
| Claims during waiting periods | 27% | Insurance bought post-arrival in Canada |
| Misuse of side-trip or multi-country rules | 16% | Travel outside Canada during advisory periods |
A broker licensed in Canada understands the provincial health billing structure, insurance laws, and claim procedures. At Canadian L.I.C., we assess your:
This helps you get a tailored plan, not a one-size-fits-all policy.
If you have a condition like diabetes, hypertension, or asthma, ask your doctor to confirm that it’s “stable.” Many insurance companies define “stability” as no change in medication, symptoms, or dosage for 90 to 180 days.
A documented statement increases your chance of successful claims.
Many plans enforce waiting periods of 48 hours to 7 days if purchased after arrival. By buying insurance in advance, you start your coverage immediately upon arrival and avoid gaps.
Most people think Travel Insurance ends after hospital discharge. But with our curated plans, follow-up care is covered:
This is especially valuable for seniors and Super Visa applicants with ongoing health conditions.
